South Sudan is the world's youngest nation, being formed in 2011. Since it's inception civil war, extreme government corruption and widespread poverty have marred the country.
South Sudan has the highest level of maternal mortality rates in the world and in less than three years the country is now ranked as #1 on the United Nations 'Failed States Index' - a list of the worst member countries for widespread violation of human rights, displacement of refugees and severe economic decline. South Sudan outranks Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria...however their plight is often unreported by the mass media.
